An early north African amphora, the predecessor of the type Africana 1. This amphora is characterised by an everted thickened rim and a short and narrow cylindrical neck with short bent handles. No complete example exists: those of Tipasa (Panella, 1982) and Arles (Bonifay, 2004) represent only part of the form. According to Panella (1982), this amphora is probably intermediate between the types Ostia 59 and Africana 1.
