?:scopeNote
  • This amphora has a cylindrical neck with a thickened plain rim, while the handles are round in section and join from below the rim to the shoulder, and body is oval with a knobbed base. The handles are often stamped, usually in Latin, but Greek characters also appear (Grace, 1962; Manacorda, 1994). Sometimes one handle bears the presumed name of the factory while the other contains the supposed name of the actual potter concerned. (en)
