?:scopeNote
  • This is a fairly large cylindrical amphora ('Africano grande' type of Zevi & Tchernia, 1969). The rim is tall and squared in section, occasionally marked by a small stepped undercut on the lower face, like on the Africana 2A type. The handles are very large and ear-shaped in profile. The body is broad and gently carinated on the shoulder, with the lower section tapering to a narrow base terminated in a solid stubby foot. The amphorae are occasionally stamped on the neck with the initials of a place name or a tria nomina (with incised letters). Anepigraphic stamps (circles or half circles) have also been attested.
