Chatelaine, now consisting of three separate parts all of which are covered in corrosion products. The chatelaine was constructed of small copper alloy rings into which iron rods with looped ends were linked. It appears from the x-ray that directly below each looped end, the rods had some kind of collar, perhaps to fixate the loop .
The first chatelaine section, presumed to be the top, starts with a copper alloy ring into which one iron rod is linked, while the hooked lower end of the rod has broken off. The second section consists of a copper alloy ring from which one rod is suspended and onto which another two seem to be corroded. It is possible that they originally were linked to the copper alloy ring as well. Yet another iron rod has corroded perpendicularly to the copper alloy ring. Green staining at the lower end of one rod may suggest that there was a copper alloy ring here originally. The last and presumably lowest section of the chatelaine consists of a copper alloy ring with still one rod attached and of at least three other rods corroded to that rod and the ring itself. As the lower ends of the rods appear as looped on the x-ray, the chatelaine may have continued. L=maximum of middle section, D=of largest ring (ring of third section)
