Sword with pointed, slightly tapered blade and sloping shoulders (total length, 880 mm; width at top of blade, 58 mm; towards point, 52 mm). The pommel is a small, rectangular button with convex sides, damaged at one end (length: 20 mm), and traces of the organic, upper and lower guards remain on the tang (depths: 10 mm and 11 mm respectively). On the lower end of the grip (length, 92 mm) is a hollow-sided, trapezoidal mount of copper alloy or silver (?) strip secured by four corner rivets (width, 27 mm; height, 20 mm). The upper part of this mount is concave in the side view, indicating that the original grip was convex-sided. Remains of the scabbard obscure the blade and it was not possible to see if any fuller was present.
Round the top of the blade is a rectangular, copper-alloy mouth-piece for the scabbard (lengthh, 62 mm; height 20 mm max). It consists of a corrugated sheet with eight low rounded horizontal ribs across the front and sides, while the back is flat with the two ends overlapping slightly and secured by a copper-alloy rivet at the top. It is possible that a second rivet at the bottom has broken away.
