Sword with pointed, tapering blade and possibly sloping shoulders, but remains of the scabbard obscure some details; total length, 910 mm; width (at top of blade), 52 mm (approx), and 48 mm (approx) towards the tip. Organic traces of the lower guard with a transverse grain are visible on the tang (depth: 15 mm), but the upper guard is obscured (depth: 12 mm approx) and the iron pommel is too corroded to determine the form. At the top of the blade is a rectangular, copper-alloy scabbard mouth-piece of sharply ridged strip riveted to a plain strip which passes round the sides and back; length, 61 mm; height, 24 mm. The six angular, horizontal ridges on the front alternate with low ridges in the intervening furrows, in which traces of gilding survive.
