?:scopeNote
  • This amphora form has only recently been identified (Arthur & Williams, 1992) and was one of the regional products that superseded the Dressel 2-4 when Italy began to lose its trade dominance in amphorae during the second/third centuries AD. It has a broadly similar shape to the Dressel 2-4 form, although there are some typological changes. The handles are oval or round in section instead of bifid and the rim is almond-shaped, with a long cylindrical body and a slightly flaring spike. (en)
