  • Buckle with triangular plate, the rear portion of which has broken off and is probably missing its tip. All parts covered in corrosion products. Three dome-headed rivets and a possible further two small rivets at the lateral corners of the buckle. The two lateral ones with ring collars, the rear one on the broken-off fragment without collar and visible ?lead filling. The x-ray of the plate shows some kind of ?cross hatching on the plate. This as well as several wire fragments visible on the x-ray suggests that this plate was wire-inlaid. Further evidence comes from the broken-off edge of the smaller plate fragment, where two gold or brass-coloured specs, possibly traces of inlaid wires, are visible. The tongue base is enlarged, probably in mushroom shape. It is higly desirable that this buckle be further cleaned and investigated, as it may well be one of the rare wire-inlaid pieces of metalwork known from early Anglo-Saxon England. II.23a
